The Restaurant’s Second Shift
From the last order to the first delivery, follow the clues that a busy bar-cum-restaurant can miss.
Follow the night shiftAt 11:30 p.m., the bartender wipes the counter and stacks the last glass. From the dining room, everything looks ready for tomorrow. Then the closing supervisor bends down to pick up a bottle cap and spots a sticky patch beneath the drinks station. It becomes the first entry in the night’s handover log.
Follow one fictional night to see where restaurant pest control fits into the hours between service and opening.
Four stops · One night
From last order to opening
-
01 · Last order · Sticky spill
The counter is clean. Check one shelf lower.
The supervisor traces the sticky patch to a syrup bottle stored below the bar. Before locking up, the team adds the lower shelves, accessible floor edges and bin area to its closing checklist.
-
02 · Closing checks · Damp patch
The ice machine leaves a clue
A torch catches a damp patch near the machine’s drain line. The supervisor notes its exact location and flags it for maintenance. When the opening team arrives, they know where to look to see whether the moisture has returned.
-
03 · Morning handover · Small flies
The flies are back at the same drain
The opening manager sees a few small flies by the wash-area drain. Yesterday’s shift logged the same thing. She records the sighting and asks for the drain and nearby wet areas to be checked. Two sightings in the same spot give the pest control team a place to start.
-
04 · First delivery · Door gap
Daylight under the service door
A staff member flags a torn carton before it reaches the storeroom. As the receiving door closes, daylight shows beneath it. The team records the gap for maintenance and adds the service entrance to the next pest inspection.
What to look for when you search “pest control near me”
Ask what the technician will inspect, how findings will be recorded and when the team will follow up. A useful service report tells you where activity was found, which repairs or cleaning tasks your staff can take on, and what the technician will check on the next visit.
For food businesses in India, FSSAI’s catering inspection checklist includes a pest control programme, records of service by trained personnel, and checks for signs of pest activity. Read the FSSAI catering inspection checklist.
